Life with the Toddlers

So, to continue from my previous blog...
My Aunt Shea had given birth to her daughter Evie and my mom had given birth to my older twin brother and sister, Keaton and Kayla. I guess it's an understatement to say that they were very busy...

Mom and Aunt Shea frequently joke that they wanted to tear their hair out when my older siblings were little. Actually, Aunt Shea told me that right after Evie was born, she ran away from the house to the local art gallery because no one would think to look for her there and even if Mom tried, she couldn't really leave because she had three infants to care for. Yikes! Thankfully, after a lot of coaxing and Aunt Shea coming to the realization that she was probably not going to drop Evie on her head, she came home.

Things did get better as they slowly worked their way into a routine. I'll talk more about my Mom's routine later on...she's like a drill sergeant in the morning!

The older the toddlers got, the more their personalities began to emerge.

Keaton was always a very loving little boy. He would hug each of his toys and try to get Mom to put them all in his crib with him because he was afraid they would be lonely.

Evie and Kayla were not as nice. Evie liked to chew on her toys while Kayla liked to break hers. The girls played together some, but Evie and Keaton were also developing a close bond. Of course, being twins, Keaton and Kayla were close as well.

Kayla was always very chatty. She probably takes after Mom (shh! Don't tell her I said that...but seriously...the woman can hold a conversation with a cactus!). Mom says Kayla was a very needy infant, but she grew out of that when she was older.

Since Evie was her only child, Aunt Shea wanted her to have the best possible upbringing, but she exerted her independence early. This picture is a perfect example...Aunt Shea is trying to get Evie to sit down and read, but the only thing on Evie's mind is toys.

So, ok...you have the basic idea about how the house was running up to this point...everything was going smoothly, the kids were doing great, Mom & Aunt Shea were handling them along with continuing their writing careers. Who could ask for more, right? Well...my mother. Something I have had to learn over the years that I may as well just tell you now is that when things are going smoothly and everyone else is happy, my mom is never satisfied.

See, even though my Aunt Shea wanted a child, she was happy with one. My mom, on the other hand was family-oriented and had the desire for more children, even though she already had two. She contacted the sperm bank and once again and that's how my older sister, Olivia came to be.

This picture was taken from inside the limo that my mom called to bring her home from the hospital...she and Aunt Shea had become local celebrities due to their writing. Well, that's what they tell me, but I have a feeling their partying habits from their younger days probably had something to do with it...but anyway....

One interesting thing about Olivia is that her biological father is a vampire. Thank goodness vampire children aren't that different from human children.
